All about Student Loan in UK!

We have always encouraged our students to apply for a government-funded course, because it’s not only offering you the opportunity to study in UK, but it also helps to cover your expenses throughout the studies. Let’s talk about what it means to get a student loan.

As mentioned before, the Student Loan Company offers you a loan (it funds you) so you can learn in higher education. The tuition fee loan goes directly to the institution, while the maintenance loan will help you during studies. This amount of money it’s paid into your bank account and doesn’t have to be justified to the government.

In order to be eligible for maintenance loan:

  • Must have lived in the UK for three years up to when you start your course;
  • Mush show your last 3 payslips;
  • Mush have a minimum of £750 income per month.

Indeed, you have to repay the loan after graduation, but it depends on which plan you are on and how much you earn (per year). Each plan has a threshold for your weekly, monthly, or annual income (which is determined and mentioned by Student Loan Company at the beginning of every academic year, on their website). You do not pay anything back if your income is under the threshold.

Education in the United Kingdom

If you are reading this, chances are that you are here for the same reason that get us out of the bed every morning – to make you the best version of yourself. Education in the United Kingdom can help with that.

Have you decided, by any chance, to give it a try and enrol to university? Hats off on making an excellent decision! You’re now officially in the loop to hear all about the educational system in the United Kingdom and the opportunities it has to offer.

Studying abroad in London is absolutely magical. And no, it’s not just the Harry Potter connection. The magic of studying in London is that there’s something for everyone. Take your bachelor’s degree in finance, art history, engineering at one of the most prestigious institutions in London. Accept an internship for a year, or just during the summer. Or simply volunteer with local non-profits and make friends. There are so many opportunities for every single individual.

Still asking yourself if studying abroad in London is worth it? YES, mate! Go for it! We can give you a list of “1000 things to know before deciding to study in London”, but it would simply take ages for you to read it. So why not giving you only 5 reasons? The most important ones. For the rest, we can have a conversation later, in case you won’t believe us.

Academic prestige

University of Cambridge. University of Oxford. Imperial College London, UCL. Do we have to say something else? These 4 universities feature in the global top 10, while a further 24 have achieved the incredible feat of ranking in the top 200. But there’s so much more, so many other top universities offering great employment opportunities, connections with the industry, internships, apprenticeships.

Wide range of courses

Whether you’re interested in going to College, university level courses, apprenticeships, or part-time courses, educational institutions in the United Kingdom offer a wealth of fantastic opportunities to help each student achieve their future study and career ambitions. The broad range of subjects and levels of study available means that, for some areas, there are opportunities to progress very quickly and get hired from your first year of studying.

Employment opportunities

Every employer asking for experience, right? And job hunter after uni is tough. How are you supposed to have at least one year experience within the field when you just got your bachelor’s degree?

Well, we are talking about the UK. Of course, they thought about it. As previously mentioned, every university has partners: companies, agencies, brands, non-profitable charities, etc. Throughout the year, these partners create opportunities for students. It can be internships, entry level positions, or volunteering job. So, while going to university and mastering your skills, why not taking the opportunity to gain real-world experience as well?!

Isn’t that great?

Financial support from the government

We are 99.9% sure that you heard about Student Loan. Student Loan (or student grants) help you pay your tuition fee and living costs.

The advantage of the loan is that you only start to pay it back after completion of the studies and only when your yearly income exceeds the £25,000 threshold, when you will only have to repay 9% of the amount that exceeds this threshold.

Oh, there’s something else we should mention in terms of financing solutions – SCHOLARSHIPS.

Government loans are not your only ways to fund your dream. In this sense, go for it and apply for a scholarship or a bursary. Every university offer merit-based, social or sport scholarships. Indeed, it won’t fully support you living in the UK, but their value is generally ranging from £1,000 – £5,000.

Opportunities. Opportunities. And more opportunities

It really is that easy to travel around Europe. Travelling from London to other major European cities is super convenient. There are 3 international airports in London, so you can travel all around the world, or save some little money and take a bus/train to Paris and Brussels. Definitely worth exploring.

Get ready to expand your palate. There’s more than just fish and chips in London.

Wi-fi is everywhere.

Public transit will be your best friend. Have you ever dreamed of sitting on top of a red double decker bus? There you go! We are not going to unveil anything else. We’ll let you explore the magic.

However, in case you’ve got any other questions, feel free to give us a call on 020 7377 5971 and we’ll get everything sorted for you.

Tips and tricks for interviews

For many of us, interviews are always characterized as intimidating moments. No matter if we are talking about a job interview, or, in our scenario, about college/university interview, this stage is a very decisive one. That’s being said, it requires a certain preparation prior to the actual interview time, so it can run smoothly for the candidate.

Because we know by heart all the tips and trick when it comes to interviews – from the way you should dress to the body language, to all the means you can highlight your skills – we have decided to put them on paper so you won’t have to dig deeper to prepare for it.
Below, you can find the most asked questions during a college/university interview:

  1. Why have you decided to apply to us?

This question is one of the most popular ones and it shows how much you have prepared for the actual interview. A quick google search about the institution will definitely be your best friend. And in case you are not quite confident on what to focus, you can mention their reputation, the course/program they offer, or even the leisure facilities that impressed you during the open day.

  1. What are you hoping to gain from the course?

Their intention is to see if for you this course is perceived as a stepping stone for your future career, or if it’s an area you would like to study more in-depth.

  1. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

If you’ve got a plan in mind, that’s great. Otherwise, don’t worry. Most of the candidates are not sure about what they will do after graduation. It is perfectly okay to say “I am not sure at the moment. I hope this course will show me the right direction.”

  1. What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are?

This question can be tricky sometimes. It is very easy to talk about your strengths – you are reliable, trustworthy, a game-changer, etc. If you are a great team member as well, make sure you mention it. But what to say when it comes to weaknesses? Nobody wants to talk about their flaws, but at the same time, nobody is perfect. So maybe you are too competitive sometimes when working within a team? Or get too excited about a project and forget at all about the deadline? Do you have a better plan now to stick to it?

  1. Do you have any questions for me?

One of the most important questions, and usually, the last one. Make sure you have 2-3 questions ready to ask. This is your chance to find the answers you were looking for. You can have questions about the course, tutors, or something that is not clear to you.

And now, because we got you started somewhere, we’ll continue this blog with some tips and tricks on how to make a good first impression.

  1. Arrive early

Make sure you give yourself an extra 15 – 30 minutes to show punctuality. Plan your journey in advance, because this will give you time to re-read your application before the interview.

  1. Bring a copy of your application and your CV

They do not expect you to remember everything. So, bring with you a copy of your application and have a look at it before the interview. Bring some notes in regard to the course, institution, etc and show that you have done your research properly.

  1. Strike a balance between formal and causal

Make a great first impression by dressing smart. Keep it simple, and make sure you don’t look uncomfortable in your clothes, especially if you are not used to wearing suits.

  1. Do not let shyness or nerves to get in your way

It is perfectly normal to get nervous and be shy when it comes to interviews. However, try to focus on the subject and answer the questions naturally. Be you 🙂
We hope these tips and tricks will help you to achieve what you are aiming for.

Everything you need to know about January’s session!

As we already know, a Brexit deal has been agreed in principle with the EU. Both the UK and the EU need to approve and sign the withdrawal agreement. They will then start to negotiate new arrangements. There would be a transition period to prepare for new rules.

The UK could still leave with no Brexit deal if the withdrawal agreement is not approved by 31 January 2020, or at the end of a transition period.

There are a number of things that could cause confusion, however, when we are talking about studying in the United Kingdom, everything seems to be pretty clear. No matter if UK will leave EU with or without a Brexit agreement, those who choose to enrol to college or university in January 2020 will remain with the same rights and will have the funding provided throughout their studies. However, given the fact that this is the last confirmed session, you should hurry up before it’s finished.

In order to be eligible, you must have a medium level of English and possess either your Baccalaureate diploma, or your High school diploma + transcript; all of them must be in original. If, by any chance, you do not have any of them, you can start a Level 3 course in order to facilitate the enrolment to a college or university.

If we are talking about domains, Atlantic London offers over 100 courses available; so, you can go to Business Management, Social Care, Tourism and Hospitality Management, or even IT and Graphic Design. Regarding the areas, we have 18 different locations, and over 40 prestigious institutions, so you can choose the one that suits you better.

Regarding the advantages, the most important thing is that the Government will support you financially during your studies. Apart from that, you will be eligible for a Council Tax discount and a 30% travel discount. And don’t forget about the majority of stores and restaurants that offer special promotions for students.

As you can obviously see, everything is in student’s favour. And if you still have questions, Atlantic London offers free services and guidance from the beginning until the end, for both the enrolment process and the financial side. Just contact us and we will prepare you for the next steps.
