HND Art & Design

There are a wide variety of careers available in the creative industries and this is a growth area nationally. There are a range of other jobs in the creative industries where an art and design related qualification are often required and these include arts administrator, arts education officer, community arts worker, art therapist, art value, archivist, medical illustrator, art gallery worker, forensic photographer, web designer and model maker, professional artist, freelance designer in industrial/ product design, graphic design, packaging design, glass design, exhibition design, interior and spatial design. Other types of career opportunities can include textile designer, animator, conservation or restoration work, advertising agency art direction, museum or gallery curation.

• Minimum Age: 18 years old;
• Applicants are required to submit proof of prior certificated learning (e.g. Secondary School Diploma/Baccalaureate/Level 3 qualification) or relevant work experience;
• Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language;
• An interview with the college is compulsory prior student registration.
• Applicants must bring their original certificates when coming for registration;

Assessment

The student experience on the HNC/HND programme will be approximately an equal division between traditional lectures and practical and assignment work.

Formal presentations – which reflect professional practice and provide opportunities for the development of transferable communication skills together with intellectual skills, such as critical analysis and evaluation.

Written Assignments – which provide opportunities for students to demonstrate competencies in research techniques, critical evaluation and transferable skills.

Local projects – which provide excellent opportunities for students to demonstrate effective self-managed learning whilst demonstrating a full broad range of competencies from technical skills and research through to independence of thought and critical analysis.

Practical Workshops – which provide opportunities for skills acquisition.

Individual and group tutorials – which provide opportunities to confirm and consolidate.

Progression

The course aims to provide opportunities for you to gain a nationally recognised qualification to enter employment or progress to higher education such as a full-time degree in art, craft and design or related areas.

Self-funding

The Tuition Fee of the course will vary depending on the institution you wish to study in, as well as your status in the UK. The course is available for UK/EU and International Students as well. Please contact us to find out the tuition fee for a specific course you’d like to know about.

Government Funds – Student Finance England       

If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on Indefinite stay, you can receive support from the government via Student Loan Company to cover tuition fees and some living costs while studying, depending on your circumstances. Tuition fee loans, to cover the full cost of your course, are paid directly to the course provider. Maintenance loans can be applied for at the same time, lending you money at the start of each term. You won’t have to pay back the loan until after your course, when you’re earning above a certain level.  Students can still apply for grants if they’re eligible for certain benefits, disabled, or need help with childcare costs.
